How to create Architectural Rendering in 3Ds Max.

Architecture is something that gets displayed and planned as well. The plans that are sophistically developed are also required to be displayed in proper format and with a complex yet stable structure. This type of process of getting the perfect mix of the Architectural source-plan in to a perfect alike blue-print image is called as Architectural Rendering. This is also a process to create a junction of the images of the Architectural design in to a real-time working model. Hence, rendering.

Following textual information describes the whole process and all that is included in creating an Architectural Rendering in the most effective, powerful and feasible software program provided by AutoDesk, which is named as 3Ds Max. It has all the sufficient palettes that can handle even the toughest kind of jobs, one of them is to create an 3D Architectural Rendering.

Practical Performance:
  1. Get the basics ready. Before heading directly to the software program, it is necessary to get the collection of all the basic information regarding the design of the architectural box. All the information related to the whole concrete-brick based structure is noted.
  2. Further, the moulding of these information is processed. To start with the process of rendering an architecture, there is a need to choose a Renderer which in the case of buildings is more likely is Mental Ray Renderer in 3Ds Max. To do this, simply, go to the render settings or Press F10.
  3. After this, a new material called Material/Map Browser pops up, which is to be configured with Grayscale settings. Other colours are also opted, but best suitable is Grey. Lighting and other settings, Arch & Design are also given an attention.
  4. For an architectural arrangement, the settings for light sources are selected. The Sun is the main source of light. System Settings has it all to position and enlighten the sun as much as needed. Also, the sky is given a set of property settings like cloud positions and temperature.
  5. Now, the area is organized where we can start rendering of the building.
  6. Multiple instances of objects, and other related data structures are involved in rendering the architecture, either in terms of Interior, and/or Exterior.
  7. All these objects are configured with proper geometric data values and then the final rendering is applied.
  8. Alas, everything is now just ready. Last minute touch up and it is ready to get published as a rendered project.

This way a new iconic rendering of an architectural structure can be performed with 3Ds Max.

3D Architectural Animation Film And 3D Walkthrough Creation Ideas.

An animation is the best and the most suitable way that acts as medium to represent any object of real-life as well as non-real life. With the help of a computer, an Architectural animation, which is a short movie or a film describing information and short details about the architectural structure is created. This possess lot of images and frames assembled together in sequence at a constant and a variable time interval.

It is a computer-generated building created along with landscapes and other minute details that may have artistic moving people and vehicles. These images are played back to produce a movie effect much like a real movie camera. The environment is also a computer-created one around the building or an architectural structure to enhance reality. All this is done at an animation studio by animation and rendering artists.

Design Principles –

  1. Layout: - First of all, the layout of hand-drawn sketches, art-work of architectural entities of a particular building are drawn. This gives a rough idea in 2D regarding what is to be included in the movie.
  2. Story Boarding: - Once the objects, parts, views, and relevant materials are identified, it is now directed by an animation director to represent all this is a story. Though an architectural animation and 3D Walkthrough may not need a story, still it is a good idea to develop a story. Since every dwelling space has something or the other to say. Find that out and on-board as a story.
  3. Modelling / Character Rigging: - Once the story is set, now it is ready to be made as a pictograph. The objects like walls, vehicles, moving men, playing children whatever a dwelling place may have, are rigged as characters and the modelling is done. This is give life to the animation. And they make give a short notion about the place.
  4. Add sounds and animation effects / Timings: - Once the characters and the story is ready, it is now captured in an animation program. At the right time a right scene should appear and that too making a decent and the most relevant sound (e.g. Opening of a closed door, breezes, creatures and birds creeping, etc.) This enhances the whole scene and the viewer gets the real experience.
  5. Review the 3D Walkthrough Architecture of the Animation: - Not only the real architectural structure, but along with that the animation is also required to be reviewed. There is a lot happening possibility to the real concrete structure, like rain, dusk, whirlpool, etc. All these can also be included in an animation.

How to create a 3D Walkthrough for Architectural Works?

3D Walkthrough, of anything whether architectural design, simulation, technological gadget, a book to be published, a device, an illustration, a human body anatomy, etc. can be made provided proper excellence of expertise, software tools and their plugins, 3D design studio, multimedia tools, technological upgrade, and relevant materialistic and skilful studio and people respectively. The Cheesy Animation Factory has it all in large amount which is sufficient to provide Architecture and all the architectural work a whole new way of virtual reality. Anything which is to be designed as a Walkthrough in three-dimensions i.e. 3D, first it has to be present in 2D.

3D Walk through Views

Here, there is a procedure that would illustrate “How to create a 3D Walkthrough for Architectural Works?”

Step – 1: - Surveying.
This step involves everything that has to be taken in to account in finding out all the requirements of the client and get the idea of the actual desired outcome. The priorities are to be determined and the 3D Design of what is to be made needs to be known. Therefore, the survey of the whole property of which an Architectural Walkthrough is to be designed requires high performance and the data is collected.

Step – 2: - Collection.
Next, the data and dimensions is turned in proper information. The calculations of the whole of the property in all its possible views (cubic) and in 3D mode is drafted. The information here is derived from all the possible data and is shared with the people involved in designing of the walkthrough. These dimensions remains as they are throughout the whole of the process of developing a 3D Architectural Walkthrough, namely, the height, width, and depth of the objects.

Step – 3:- Layout.
The 2D Layout or the Floor plan is then set up in the dimensions as stated in the previous step. The layout of the plan gives a structure that acts a base of the 3D Walkthrough and the direction of the walkthrough is now decided right from the entrance towards the exit of the walkthrough. Simple terminology, the view that is to be created is now decided by giving a start point and an end-point. Whatever comes between these points is to be taken in to the Walkthrough layout.

Step – 4:- Objects and their variables.
Think about a building. Right from the entrance in it, what all the object would be seen? All these objects are now found out and given a set of variables and each assigned a dimensional value. The furniture, the set up lighting system, environment, everything, is give a value added attention. Here the video is now shot and is made an edit-ready at our studio. Everything here is give a lively-hood and a photo-realistic effect.

Step – 5:- 3D is the agenda.
Here, it comes the main task is taken care of. All the 2D graphical representations are now made in 3D form giving a ‘Z’-axis and assigning depth value to all the objects. This is where the viewer can have a 3600 (round-the-world) view of the whole property. Even an inside-out approach is also given good notion on client’s requirement.

Step – 6:- Fabricating, Finalizing, and Testing.
Alas, this creates a whole 3D Architectural Walkthrough in desired format. But still some good quality touch-ups are given to make it more real to the viewer. Fabrication of colours, shadows, embosses/bevels, lighting, everything is checked for and made absolute. Once the final walkthrough design is ready, it is tested again by our Technical team and designers for error-free delivery. Once delivered the client get an option to have a revision for anything that is not favourable.

We, being The Cheesy Animation Factory, also are choosy in our tools. Therefore, we possess the best technology so far invented at our studio to incline to excellence of any given job.
